I am somewhat interested in a CD27 that is for sale in the yard where my current boat is (International Folkboat). Can any CD 27 owners fill me in on such things as problems to look for, sailing characteristics, going price on a 1978 that appears to be in good condtion with standard equipment.
Thanks.

CD27 reviews wanted

Re: CD27 reviews wanted
I had a CD 27 for a few years and was impressed with it all around. Never a fast boat but very secure. We sailed it in the Outer Banks of NC with very few winds under 20kts. Used the storm jib and reefed main alot. This balanced the boat very well. It does have a little difficulty rounding up when not flying a jib. We had an 8hp yanmar on ours and I found that it was under powered. Look closely at the sails. On a 78 they should have been replaced. Ours had a worn out main which we had to replace soon after purchase. Check for excessive crazing and such. Ours was in unbelievable shape for the age of the boat. We did have a blister or two which your survey should reveal. A dodger is wonderful and if it has one in good shape, that is a plus. If the boat is in good shape I've seen them go for 1,900 or so.

I own a Cape Dory 27, hull number 65. It is a great boat. I sail
in the gulf of Mexico. It is a very stable boat. I agree with the
other answer. The 8 hp Yanmar is not large enough for the boat, but,
it is after all a sailboat. I, too, had to replace my sails this
year. A 27 footer in this area would sell in the $15,000 range.

Sorry, I made a typo. Not 1,900 but 19,000

I bought my 1978 CD27, hull number 71 last fall and I paid 13,500. The boat was in great condition and had a lot of extras. I think that you might want to negotiate that price a bit. I almost picked up a 77 CD28 for less than that.Bob Bundy wrote: I had a CD 27 for a few years and was impressed with it all around. Never a fast boat but very secure.
