Typhoon wiring wind sensor through cabin

Has anyone added a wind sensor and anchor light on top of mast, running wires through top of cabin?

Is your concern thru deck wiring or mounting the sensor?

Thru deck is easy. Drill over sized hole , epoxy fill, redrill proper sized hole, either use a thru deck connector, or a ScanStrut deck seal (using wire connectors).

I imagine that one needs to carefully locate where to drill the hole for a thru-deck connector so as not to unintentionally drill into the mast step support beam.

I could not figure out what the correct name for the through deck parts were called. I will order those. I'm still not sure how I am going to run the NMEA cable from cabin into the mast so I can disconnect when trailering the boat.

did not do an anchor light but did add a forward facing running white light above the tang for the forestay . drilled a hole in the mast just big enough to feed the wire then used an electrician's fish to get the wire down the mast while the mast was off the boat. drilled another hole just above the bottom cleats on the mast for the wire to exit and installed a 12v plug on the end of the wire. installed a Cole Hersee 12v weather proof plug on the coach roof well forward of the mast to avoid the plywood between the fiberglass coach roof and the interior skin. there is enough room between the headliner and the coach roof fiberglass to run wire to wherever you wish to install a circuit breaker panel.

I had the thru deck fittings when I got this boat but It kept getting knock around cuz I stowed my dinghy there. also the ones I had were designed for round wire. The insulation on the wires in my mast was flat so There wasn't a good seal

You can use a cable clam once you determine where to drill the hole (fill and redrill as mentioned in a previous post) and determine the correct size to handle both wires. GOOGLE “cable clam” or “blue sea cable clam”.

We made the meeting in Alabama, do not think we met you there. We are the folks from Wyoming. We have two Cape Dory's. One in barn for refit, the trainer being refitted for lake this year. We will check out the cable clams.

Nope, you didn’t meet us there. We are in NJ and do the majority of our sailing in the Northeast between NJ and ME. We did go to one of the CDSOA annual general membership meetings in Fairhope, AL, but that was quite a few years ago.
