Harry's a Gentleman, that's for sure.

BTW There's what looks like a CD36(?) there- I can't tell exactly because it's under a Fairclough cover.

If it's a 36, would its owner introduce himself?

Curtis,

I just joined the New Haven Yacht Club in New Haven.. only moorings, modest club house, floating docks and member launch service. Located in Morris cove of New Haven harbor.. 5 minutes into the sound $400 initiation fee to join and dues $410 per year.. Moorings run $430 or so for 200lbs.. from what I've seen so far a great group.. E-mail if you have any interest and I'll forward to the membership person. I have a 25' cape dory and I believe that they will take up to 30'. Only 40+ members.

Good luck !

John

Another Vote for Noank

Frankly Noank Ship Yard is no more expensive than other like facilities; in fact it is cheaper than the 'Brewers' chain. Free launch service for moored boats, decent shower facilities. Great people there. Captain Stumpf might attest to that..one day in his absence the crew were recharging his battery...thats good service in my mind. The best part is that in 10 minutes you are out in Fishers Island Sound which is great sailing territory.

I sailed Great South Bay all of last season. Great DEPENDABLE sea breeze just about every day at 12-18 knots with those occasional days of 20-30 knots. Marvelous sailing. Now, if there was just someplace interesting to go to on Great South Bay it would be terrific!

We have a lot of great places to go on the Great South Bay.
Try Hemlock Cove for overnighters on the barrier beach off
the State Boat Channel. This is a regular spot that our
cruising club uses during the summer for get togethers.
There's also Great River with good restaurants along the
river. Watch Hill 25+ miles down at the end of the bay on
Fire Island. Also while your down there visit the village
of Bellport on Long Island side. They have a quaint village
with a few good restaurants and a summer-stock theater group.
There is also Flynns on Fire Island, the light house near the
inlet, Pirates Cove, Sailors Haven, Saltaire, Davis Park (nice
old homes) and more. You can also go east through the Smiths
Point Draw Bridge.

Bob,
I've been going to Fair Harbor on Fire Island for 20 years. My brother-in-law has a house there and I used to keep a Buccaneer Champion (18ft racer) on a mooring there. But you're right. The places you mentioned are interesting. I think I just "dismissed" them because they are so close by and I never bothered to look. That will change this year. Thanks for the advice!

Take a look at Pilot Point Marina in Westbrook just east of cedar island marina in clinton..It is 10 min max from slip to sound and the service is excellent..It is big w/ over 800 slips but we sail our typhoon out of the marina and can be under sail in 10 minutes..The marina has a restaurant and swimming pool for landside activities and bbq grills at each slip head..I have had nothing but great service when needed and eager fellow sailors who have helped out with docking when asked and dumb questions all the time..We will be in F-3 by the third week of april..Good luck..
Call Debby at 860.399.7906 for more info..
PPM is a Brewer yard..

I have a 1977 Cape Dory 25 (Mandolin) that has been on Lake Champlain for most of her life, but we are moving her to the Connecticut coast somewhere. I am looking for suggestions for a marina with fairly easy access to the sound and modest facilities. I looked at Cedar Island Marina? Any suggestions or recomendations would be great.

Yes, that is with their ground tackle, mooring ball, and lines. Also, the price is for a 31 footer. Not that that makes it any easier to take. Unfortunately, there isn't even a swimiming pool or golf course, or tennis court or nothing shoreside...except a fried fish resturant at the shore end of the main dock.......

Capt. Dave,
What you got against fried fish ?
