optimal conditions

Post by Megunticook »

Just returned from a short stay out in Penbobscot Bay yesterday, had a southeast wind around 5-10 knots, sailing on a broad reach most of the day. I must say, it was one of the finest sailing days ever--not just because it was a beautiful sunny day at the perfect temperature, but the boat was just performing like a dream. We were making 6 knots much of the time, which is awfully fast for this boat. Had full main and working jib up, I would've thought that a larger foresail would've been more appropriate in that wind, but the boat just heeled slightly (5-10 degrees) and flew forward. Seems like sometimes you just get the exact right amount of canvas up in the right conditions and the boat really comes alive. I guess Alberg sure knew what he was doing.
