Yes, for the CDSOA sail, yours truly was Shanty Master.
Sail raising was a breeze with the CDSOA members on board! Gaff, sail and boom are 3000 lbs in total, but it's easy work if you all... work... together... and... in... rhythm! (See "Shanty Master," above!)
For those who are fans of simple machines and mechanical advantage, the throat end of the gaff is 4/1, and the peak is 6/1. The bitter ends of both the throat and peak halyards go to a 4/1 jig, that turns that into 16/1 and 24/1, for final tensioning. While it took a long row of haulers on the halyards, I alone (with 24/1 on my side) raised the peak at the end. Of course the six feet or so I hauled in raised the peak all of three inches. (It's mostly about tension).
That's Cathy hauling in the second reef outhaul as the sail comes down.

I know the man in the blue painting is supposed to be Pete Seeger. Is it just me, or does he look more like Bob Lascelles?

The kids who come on board think it’s me. Anyone with the beard and hat would be a dead ringer.Carl Thunberg wrote:I know the man in the blue painting is supposed to be Pete Seeger. Is it just me, or does he look more like Bob Lascelles?
