Obituary for Robert Walker Lewis
Robert Walker Lewis Sr., passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 25, 2019. He was 68 years old.

Walker was born in Utica, NY on October 12, 1950 to Margaret and William Walker Lewis. He married his childhood sweetheart, Patricia Scalzo, in January of 1975. They had a happy marriage with many adventures including a voyage on the Queen Elizabeth II and many trips to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Walker cherished time with his family and was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Walker worked for many years in advertising before returning to school and pursuing a career as a teacher. He was an avid reader with a strong curiosity about the workings of the world. His varied interests ranged from trains to the circus. He loved all music and playing his bass guitar. Throughout his life he performed with bands, most recently with fellow teachers at the West Bronx Academy for the Future. As a black belt in karate, he taught students of all ages. He was also an original member of the Westchester-Putnam Men’s Senior Baseball League. Walker had a lifelong love of sailing and sailboats, which he shared with his good friend Trevor. A member of the City Island Yacht Club, Walker treasured his Cape Dory sailboat, Aeolus, and would take his friends and family out for a sail whenever he could.

Walker loved kids and people watching and enjoyed conversing with everyone who crossed his path. He was warm-hearted, fun, and engaging, and made many dear friends along the way.

Walker is survived by his wife (Patricia Scalzo Lewis), his children (Robert Walker Lewis Jr. and Nancy Calabrese), their spouses (Prentice and Kevin), his grandchildren (Hazel and Charlie), his siblings (Bill, Jean, and Margaret), and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was a cherished member of the Scalzo family.

Memorial visitation was held on Saturday, March 30th from 12 noon until 4:00pm followed by a memorial service at 4:00pm at the Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry, NY.

Thanks for posting, Cathy.

Walker was looking forward to joining us on the Clearwater sail and we were looking forward to sailing with him. Pat called me just the day before and told me.

Aeolus is for sale and Pat would appreciate us passing that word along.

Rest easy, Walker.
Fair winds, Neil
