Removing companionway sliding hatch - CD27

Post by csoule13 »

Seems to be the season for folks here fixing leaks in and around the companionway. I got the sea hood off with out problem because all of the caulking and bedding compound was kaput. The sliding hatch on the other hand, I can't figure out how to remove without removing the teak rails as well. I saw mentioned previously that there were rubber stoppers, but that's not the case on my boat. What is causing the issue seems to be the forward most piece of trim. What voodoo am I missing here?

And no, I don't have a photo. Will be at the boat on Wednesday and can rectify that at that time.

That was almost the case on Christine C as well. But I was able to slightly flex up on the sliding hatch to get it to clear the piece of trim inside the companionway; the piece the builder's plate is mounted on. It might be a lot less work to remove and reinstall the teak rails than removing the companionway trim. Note that if you end up having to remove the interior trim, you will have to remove the hatch again.

Thanks Jeff, nice to hear there wasn't something obvious staring me in the face. Given that I splash soon, certainly looking at doing this project in as few steps as possible.
