Cross reference Universal M-25 part numbers to Kubota D-850?

Post by Capt Hook »

My boat has a Universal M-25 engine that I understand is derived from a Kubota D-850 engine. I’ve been told and I think I confirmed today that parts are much cheaper from a Kubota dealer. I needed a fresh water pump and went to a Kubota dealer. I asked for a parts manual for a D-850. They don’t go that way. They go by the tractor. So we had to find a tractor that had a D-850 engine. Assuming we ordered the right parts for my engine they were about $261 from Kubota versus $465 from Westerbeke ordering by Universal part numbers.
Is there a cross reference from a Universal part numbers to Kubota part numbers?

The Kubota B7100 tractor has the D-850 block, as such it would be the reference the Kubota Dealer would need to determine the part numbers applicable to the M-25 Universal engine. They do not stock the parts used to marinize the block such as the raw water pump, heat exchanger, tranny, etc.
This info was gleaned from http://c34.org/bbs/index.php/board,11.0.html which is a valuable resource.
Another resource for specific engine advice would be http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f54/ where you have a vastly larger audience to offer advice.

I guess I described the pump I need wrong.
It’s the coolant pump not the sea water pump. I realize the tractor doesn’t have a sea water pump and liquid to liquid heat exchanger.

When I had Raven's engine out to rebuild the transmission, I took the thing down to my Kabota tractor dealer, in the back of my truck. I asked the parts guy about ordering parts for it and he went outside and found the model number on the engine block. Mine is a M20 and he knew which tractor it was used in, once he had the number.

I wanted to replace the oil pan as a precaution. Universal wanted $240; it was $70 from Kabota. The gasket; $70 vs $17. I got main seals and a few other things as well. The marine mark up is pretty astounding, Steve.

The pump I need is Universal P/N 300203 on page 37 of the Universal Parts List.

I don't have the Kumota P/N but when it comes in I should see it on package.
