Plans for Typhoon Cradle
Does anyone have plans for a Typhoon cradle? Just purchased a Typhoon and must move it out of its present location soon. I have a flatbed trailer available. If I can not locate a suitable trailer I am considering building a cradle for a temporary solution.

Re: Plans for Typhoon Cradle
If you look through the Cape Dory Owners Manual (posted elsewhere on this website), you’ll find plans for building a Typhoon cradle. The recommended distances between hull supports are 48” side-to-side and 68” front-to-back, with a couple of inches of variability each way (you needn’t honor those specs exactly). Since the actual weight of the boat (2,000 lbs.), is supported by the keel, the keel pad needs to be quite strong, whereas the rest of the cradle can be built out of 2”x4”s lagbolted together. A cradle so described carried a Typhoon on top of a conventional trailer from SC to AZ and then to OH and back to SC with no issues. I can send pics of the design if you like.
Good luck with the project!

There was/is someone offering a free PT Typhoon cradle available for pickup in NH (posted last Oct.), in the “Cape Dory” forum - don’t know if it’s still there or where you are located, but perhaps you’d save yourself some build-time if you’re not too far from NH?

Sorry - my bad! The free cradle is posted on the “For Sale” forum...
