Going over the survey I had done when I purchased my CD27 to prioritize my projects this spring, and found the following:
- Lighting ground plate thru-bolts are red with corrosion and damaged. Replace
Given they are below the waterline, I'm a little concerned about what pandora's box I'm opening up here. Anyone do this before, and if so, tips/tricks/gotchas to watch out for?
Ground plate thru-bolts

Re: Ground plate thru-bolts
Mine is fastened with two slotted flat-head bronze machine screws with washers, lock washers, and nuts inside the bilge. You may be able to merely remove the nuts and use a hammer to remove them. If they are recalcitrant you may need someone on the outside to keep the heads from turning while you loosen the retaining nuts. Replace with bronze and a little caulk as bedding. Should be a simple fix.csoule13 wrote:Going over the survey I had done when I purchased my CD27 to prioritize my projects this spring, and found the following:

That being said, the surveyor may be mistaken and a wire brush will be all you need to clean the “corrosion” from the fasteners and you can reuse them.
