Mid Winter - Show your Sailing Summer

Post by Paul D. »

So we up in the North Country are about to get some of our first serious snow and proper way-below-zero cold. I know there is an eye candy specific CD photo discussion page, but It's time to post some of your favorite shots from your summer sailing season here. Maybe with a lesson learned, brief story or quick anecdote. Consider it charity for your northern brethren.

That picture shows why they call it blue water sailing. The waters of the Gulf Stream are the most beautiful color I have ever seen. When the waves stand up so you can see through the crests it can only be described as topaz.

Toss in a few flying fish, maybe a couple of Tropic Birds and you are in heaven, Steve.

Well, I'm not exactly sailing, but there's salt water involved. This shot was taken on a memorable morning of striper fishing on the flats in Barnstable, MA. When I'm not sailing my Cape Dory, there's nothing I'd rather be doing than fly fishing for striped bass on the Cape.

Here we are at anchor in Chief Matthews Bay in Gardner Canal, British Columbia. This is very far off the beaten track, as it is many miles up a dead end fjord, with very few places shallow enough to anchor. Here we are perched on the edge of a narrow shelf at the mouth of a creek, just between way too deep and aground. Most boats that come this far north are headed to Alaska, and don't have time to detour back in here, so there are very few other boats, but it is a spectacular place. There are also a number of very nice hot springs for soaking.
