Need thermostat for a Faryman A30, and sad news.

Post by Seaweed2 »

Well, bad news for Faryman diesel owners. The North American distributor told me that the Faryman Factory in Germany closed for the holidays and instead of reopening, they went bankrupt. I have called around for a new t-stat but only could find one for $58! Hard to swallow. It looks like the part number is 555.006.2 and I have been told that it is a 50degree Celsius t-stat and also told it was a 167degree Fahrenheit t-stat. It is about 1 1/2 inches long and 1 inch diameter. Mine is stuck open.
If you know where I could find one I certainly would appreciate it.

Have you tried the quick fixes like spraying it with brake cleaner and scrubbing it with a soft brush? Soaking it overnight in CLR would also work if you have some handy. Once it’s cleaned just drop it in a pan of water and bring it to a boil on the stove to test it.

I haven't tried to loosen this one up yet because I was thinking it would be better to start with a new one. The ole diesel must be babied more than ever, especially now since there are very limited sources of Faryman parts. I will soon look into freeing this one up and putting it back in service if I cannot find a suitable replacement at a suitable price. Although I am thankful that it happened this way, I would have suspected it to freeze closed instead of open. It spends much more time closed than open and has flow across it when open also. Go figure.

Finally found one at the dear price of $57. I tested it in hot water and it dutifully opened as it should. I have installed it but the boat is not yet in the water d/t dock submerged and very busy spring.
