mental health day
With all the turmoil regarding politics, end of summer, Tennis arguments, impending hurricanes and other items causing stress I decided to take advantage of an 8 knot wind from the NNE and sail Victoria - my CD Typhoon. It is refreshing to sail off the dock out of the bay around the islands then tack back and forth on Lake George being the only boat on the water. It sure was refreshing to get away from the computer, TV blaring nothing but many versions of the same news as well as discussions as to why the beloved Red Sox have lost two games in a row. The Typhoon sails like a much larger boat getting going at a 15 degree heel, charging through the small chop and sneaking up on a solitary loon making the decision when to leave for points south. What a responsive little boat to the helm, wind gusts and slight changes in wind direction - she just charges ahead taking care of the skipper. Didn't want to turn back to the dock but I had to go stack the firewood to get ready for the coming winter. She ghosted up to the dock and is an easy boat to tie up and put away - ready for the next sail or to re ready to haul out for the winter. Darn this was a nice solo sail - just wanted to share my enthusiasm for such a sweet little boat!

Ain't it great to have a boat that handles as sweet as a Typhoon!!

I once had a champion J24 racer sail aboard our old Typhoon on Lake Minnetonka. He was very surprised how well the boat sailed, how fast it was and also the electricity of the "feel" sailing so close to the water. He confessed to me of not wanting to go out sailing on such a "tepid small boat" beforehand, but after sailing he understood completely why I and others like me loved these things so much.
Enjoy these fall sailing days. Winter is upon us!

One of the little things I love about my 27 is the sound of the hiss of the wake as it seperates from the stern. My Dad has an Ericson which is a fine boat, but he's about a foot higher off the water, and it's just not the same.

Unfortunately, our sailing season is short. We had a glorious last day-sail last week, tacking to Boothbay, then flying under full spinnaker through the Thread of Life (mid-coast Maine) and home to Poorhouse Cove. Next weekend, my wife and I will make the 2-day sail back to Great Bay Marine (Newington, NH) for haulout. There will be one last Dark 'n Stormy at anchor in Wood Island Harbor (Biddeford) to celebrate the end of a great sailing season.

We just arrived at our other home in Nova Scotia. In the harbor out front is a pretty Ty riding a mooring. She is owned by a local who, for health reasons, had her on the hard for a few summers. Nice to see her out there.
And yes, they are a lovely boat to sail, solo or crewed. Fast, dry and comfortable. Wonderful design.
