That’s a shocking post. Very sorry to hear it. What happened? What repairs were so defective it led to the loss of your boat? What boatyard was involved?

When you bring your boat to a boatyard, regardless of if it is a do-it-yourself like Robbie's Marina of Key West who caused the damages in this photo (my fault for not doing it myself and expecting them do their job without causing damage), then gave me an eviction notice and didn't pay the damages until I went to court...or...

If you bring it to a full-service boatyard like Harbour Towne Marina in Dania Beach, FL and Yacht Management Group Inc. cuts out and replaces the cockpit floor and it looks like this and they expect you to pay for both it and laydays ($11k+)...you put yourself in a position where you rely on others who may or may not do the job you like...

I agree that allowing a boatyard to work on your boat can put you at risk. I’ve always ancouraged folks to work on their own boat if their situation allows it.

But a CD 28 is a very tough boat. I’m not seeing anything in those two photos that would send your boat to the dumpster. Is there more to this story or am I missing something? Can’t this boat be saved or the restoration completed by someone else?

As said - YMG made repairs that were not acceptable - a spongy deck as in the photo - handed me a bill of $11k and said if I didn't pay it or get an atty and go through that mess I wouldn't get the boat back. That and the fact that the boat needed additional repairs (deck areas were damaged) and I had already made extensive repairs to the mast step, bow support, shrouds and transom after botched jobs by two other guys. Would never again give a boat repair job to someone else to do and would plan better next time.
