Protecting Lazarette-Mounted Outboards from Corrosion

This lazarette-mounted 2012 outboard has been used seasonally in salt water. I'm wondering if the portion below the waterline is acceptable (it looks like there is residual outboard bottom paint present), or if it should be prepped, prime red and repainted with factory paint and then a new coat of outboard bottom paint?

Also, do lazarette-mounted outboards tend to need the lower end rebuilt more frequently? Assuming regular seasonal maintenance including changing the lower end gear oil and ensuring the sacrificial anodes are still good, is there anything else that can be done to reduce corrosion damage short of removing the outboard after every sail (which in this case would be difficult as it's a 100-kb motor). Keeping the raw water intake clean from various marine growth was a RPITA for the 9.9hp that originally came with Brigitta. I finally sold it and bought a Tahotsu 6hp that spent most of the time on the cabin sole. Only used it when really, really needed.

Thanks I was thinking of doing the same thing. What was the size of Brigitta? Around here there are a couple of bay bridges where going head-to-wind against the current and tide makes me like having the extra "oomph" of the 9.9. I'm not sure a 6HP would be adequate under those conditions.
