Hello CD 25 owners!
I’m looking at getting a 1980 (not 1975 as I thought) Cape Dory 25. I’m not sure if there are good or bad years relating to construction but is this a good year? The boat is good shape. Is there anything I should check in better detail? Also, how do you feel she sails in 6-8 knots and 20-25 knots. Lately here in Chicago, that has been the wind speeds with not much in between. Thank you all for any notes. Have a great sailing summer all!

Hello Will,
At 20 knots with a bit of reef your CD 25 will rock in it's element.
What to look for:
backing plate corrosion.
Rot under cockpit hinge seats.
Slope in the side deck toward the cabin instead of the rub rail drains.
Rudder separation from the tiller shaft.
Soft spots on the deck and cockpit companionway.
Hope you find none of these and enjoy your new ride.
Dick

Hi Dick,
Thank you much! I’ll check these things you mentioned in your note. I’m going to see the boat this afternoon. I’m very excited and hope all checks out fine. Enjoy your sailing summer! Cheers, Will
