CD25D Questions
Hi All,
I know they were only made for a few years (82-85), but are there any differences between early and later 25Ds?
Also, the diesel, is it raw water cooled or fresh water w/heat exchanger?

Interior.....couple of sites to look at for a better idea....standing vs. sitting room, etc.....

Re: CD25D Questions
Hi Jon;
Most 25Ds with factory installed inboard diesels had either the 1GM Yanmar or, as an option, the Westerbeke 10-2. The little Yanmar is raw water cooled; The larger Yanmars, like the 2GM20 and the 3GM30 can also come as raw water cooled, or freshwater cooled (with the F suffix, ie 3GM30F); If you have a raw water cooled 2GM20 or 3GM30, Yanmar makes a freshwater upgrade kit that you can add. The Westerbeke 10-2 had freshwater cooling. Owners who chose this option did so, I believe, because they wanted the additional power as well as the hot water option. Several owners on this site have the Westerbeke 10-2; it would be interesting to hear what they have to say about it. The diesel engine is really an interesting machine from an engineering standpoint. Fine tolerances, high compression, no spark plugs, lots of low end torque, non explosive fuel; a perfect choice for an inboard power plant.

Re: CD25D Questions
Hey Jon,
Aren't you guys under two new feet of snow up there?
My 25D had the 1GM Yanmar -- raw water cooled-- with a three blade fixed prop. I never felt like I was wanting for power especially early in the season with a clean bottom.
Some things I would look for if you are looking at a 25D with one of these motors are:
1. Have a mechanic do a compression test. (clean fuel and high compression are what make a diesel run)
2. have that same mechanic check for corrosion in the motor, in the cooling jacket. A raw water cooled motor in salt water then not properly cleansed and witnerized could have some serious corrosion or build up in the cooling system.
3. inspect the motor mounts. The Yanmar is a one cylinder diesel and has been known to shake the life out of the fluid dampened motor mounts.
In the ten years I owned mine it never failed to start and run. It always amazed me in the spring how quickly it would start---it was like I had run it only yesterday.

Got Snow?
Got snow?
Oh yeah! We had plenty on the ground, two feet more came along, and now we are getting another foot or two. Sovereign is on stands in my driveway. I think I will wax the bottom, hoist the rig, and sail around the neighborhood this weekend. Of course, being on starboard tack, I will feel no obligation to yield at any stop signs!
All the best,
Jon

Re: Got Snow? SNOW! ugh..Want Some?
Yup! got snow! Shipping some would be no problem either..heh. I dared to consider the possiblility that we may be able to get north to the boat next weekend..heh. So, what's on the news? Winter Storm Warning..9 in. of snow, blowing snow, freezing rain and sleet, starting tonight and continuing through tomorrow night! Jeesh..someone unplug that darn snow machine~!
Come on everyone..think some warm thoughts for us up here and the poor guys out east too. They get this thing after it's done with us!
Inundated or about to be...in Northwestern Wisconsin.

OK I can't resist
Date: Yesterday
Oxford MD, Sunny skies and warm temperatures (50 something) found many boat owners begining that right of spring known as boat commisioning. The sound of sanders, buffers and skinned knuckles seemed to be every where. Winter covers and tie downs were folded and in every open car trunk ready to be stored for next season. "it's like I have awoken from hibernation" said Chris Cram of Washington DC "It may not be spring yet, but it is for me -- this is therapy".
When asked about the tedium of all the work needed to ready his boat for another season Cram replied "This isn't work, this is boating!"
Happy spring to all those in it and those soon to be.

Larry,
I'll think warm thoughts as soon as I can put down my snow shovel! The thoughts that are going thru my mind at this particular time would earn an "X" rating from the censors!

Re: OK I can't resist
Chris,
Ahh, warmth!! Thanks. That was exactly what I was looking for. Those words describe nicely that feeling of contentment and the "all is right with the world" feeling we get when we work on the boat in the spring.
It's the essence of my memories too. The sound of a sander going in the distance, a couple excited voices describing a late fall sail in heavy winds, plans for the summer..etc. Thanks.
Well, the white stuff continues to invade our lives...9 in. already on the ground, 20-30 kt. winds whip it up and I doubt that I will get home tonight. I can see maybe 100 ft. outside now. There was a deer that walked by my office window..head coated in snow. He looked confused too...

Yes,
I saw that deer while I was sailing around the neighborhood Saturday. It had a suitcase under its arm and was asking for directions to Miami!
