Refinishing cockpit coamings in-place

Post by drb9 »

Is there any feasible way to restore the cockpit coamings without removal? The forward part of the coaming, where it takes a 90-degree turn, is particularly hard to get scrapers/sanders in. I have toyed with removing them, but that seems like a lot of work to unglue them from the hull. Any suggestions?

For most of the work, I would rely on a 5" orbital-vibrating type sander (maybe with a vacuum attached) Then for the
tight spaces, an oscillating multi-tool with a modified, ground down narrow saw blade. Glue a piece of sandpaper
onto the blade with instant glue. Or, you could wrap or staple some sandpaper onto a narrow piece of wood and have
at it. Others may have better ideas. - Jean
