The weather guy here in Nawlins last night was talking about a LOW off of Miami.

He says it's not too early for a hurricane in the Atlantic.

But he also said it looks like too much wind shear for it to develop.

Do you have Bali Ha'I tied down?

At this time of the year meteorologists have to start ginning up their segments so that they can get in some practice for when the real game starts in Jul, Aug, Sep.

The low is probably going to move a little south of us in South Florida. Rain (much needed) and easterly winds. We are getting now and will get Friday and maybe Saturday winds in the range of 20-23 kts. near shore.

This website projects winds for the Fowey Light area off Biscayne Bay -

S/V Bali Ha'i is currently secured and strapped to her Triad Trailer. She is not strapped down to the concrete slab and eye bolts I built and installed earlier this year. When we get the real one (and we will) then I will deploy the large straps, oversized eye bolts, etc.

Sadly, medical issues have kept her on the trailer for too long. I am hoping to get out of sick bay soon, do some needed maintenance on S/V Bali Ha'i and then launch in mid-Oct (near the end of "H" season).
Fair winds,

Roberto

Roberto,
Hope your recovery comes quickly! I had surgery for dupuytren's contracture on my right little-finger just after getting new sails on KAYLA. Last Sunday I was finally able to sail - 1st time in over 2 months.

Take care & be safe!

Roberto,
Those pesky Yankees are too close for comfort.
We’ll have to see what the next three days brings.

Roberto,

My weather guy is saying you're going to get wet.

Hope you don't have to deal with Alberto.

This is the hurricane and tropical storm projections for 2018 from Colorado State University. As you can see, all the projected numbers are above the yearly averages. The "yearly average" is in parentheses and then the projected number.

This is bad. This is really, really bad.

ATLANTIC BASIN SEASONAL HURRICANE FORECAST FOR 2018

Issue Date 5 April 2018

Named Storms (NS) (12.0) 14

Named Storm Days (NSD) (60.1) 70

Hurricanes (H) (6.5) 7

Hurricane Days (HD) (21.3) 30

Major Hurricanes (MH) (2.0) 3

Major Hurricane Days (MHD) (3.9) 7

Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) (92) 130

Net Tropical Cyclone Activity (NTC) (103%) 135

The subtropical (or possibly nontropical) low in the Gulf off Tampa is nothing but rain, which we badly need. It will soon fizzle out (hopefully).
Fair winds,
