Masking Tape

Post by jneely »

Does anyone have any suggestions for masking tape. I seem to remember a 3M tape that was stretchable and good for masking along curved surfaces. I cannot remember the name though.

Check out 3M Vinyl 471 Tape. It is priced on the high end but it works.

I've used 3M Scotch 2093EL which is an edge lock blue painters tape for a few years. It can be left in place for a couple weeks and will leave no residue when removed. A bit pricey but a very good performing tape. I'll never buy the bargain basement stuff again, life is too short.

I only use one tape on the Far Reach. 3M 233. It’s inexpensive, it’s solvent resist, and can be left on for a few day. It does not bend, per se, though there are techniques one can use....

I have used it to mask off for bottom paint, Awlgrip, Brightside, kiwi grip, and gallons of varnish.

Highly recommended.

From what I can tell (on the internet) 3M is marketing that tape for the automotive repair market. Do you buy it at auto parts stores?
