Electric Bilge Pump(s) on CD30

Hi, everybody;
My '78 '30 has the good ol' factory-installed manual bilge pump...and that's it. Many folks have bent my ear toward putting in at least one, if not redundant electric pumps and switches.
I'd love to hear from anyone with good and bad experiences in this department: 1) Brands, types to recommend/warn against? 2) Is one enough, or two? three? 3) '30 owners: where have you placed your switches and pumps?
So far, the only water I've noticed in my bilge appears to have come from the #$%*@ ice box...but best not to tempt the gods, eh?
