Are you interested in float-in at Red Brook Hbr, MA in 2018?

Post by Cathy Monaghan »

Please let me know, by replying to this post, if you are interested in participating in a CDSOA float-in at Red Brook Harbor, Cataumet, MA during the weekend of July 14th, 2018.

We would meet in the late afternoon or evening on Saturday, July 14th in Red Brook Harbor. This gives folks the time needed to sail to the harbor from their homeports. Bruce and I will most likely be sailing from Padanaram. We can either get moorings from Kingman Yacht Center or Parker's Boat Yard. If we get moorings from Kingman's, we'll meet ashore and dine at the restaurant. If we get moorings from Parker's, we'll meet ashore and have a potluck picnic or ask the launch driver to take us to Kingman's for the restaurant. Another option is to anchor off Bassett's Island, but since this is a Summer weekend, that'll probably be impossible.

Thanks,
Cathy

I'm interested. Friends have told me that's a really nice area, but I've never been there although it's close. - Jean

We're in!

I'd prefer Parkers and something less formal than a restaurant dinner.

Red Brook Harbor is an easy daysail from New Bedford. It is also the most well-protected of all the harbors on Buzzards Bay. Both channels into the harbor are narrow and winding but easy to follow (the south channel is easier). We've never had a problem getting in or out of there, even at low tide, but you must stay in the channel. Make sure you have everything you need since there are no shops/stores within walking distance of either marina, though Kingman's has a little shop. So if you forget to bring food, you'll have to dine at the restaurant at Kingman's; it's casual and the food is very good.

We're not doing anything formal, so don't worry about having to bring your tuxedo.

I think it would be fun to start things off with a "dinghy float". We would lash all of our dinks together behind one of the boats and share snacks while we make friends and jabber on about our boats while lounging in our dinks. Those of us who have dinghies can pick up those that don't have any, so everyone would be included. Then we grab whatever we made for the potluck and head ashore. For now these are just suggestions. Keep'em coming.

Some of you might remember that our summer home overlooks Red Brook Harbor. We're located around the corner from Parker's. We could host an informal gathering, as we did a few years ago, or join you folks at the Chart Room. Whatever the group wants.
