Hurricane Season 2018

I know "H" season does not begin until 01 June. However, Colorado State recently published its predictions for 2018. They are not good. The thinking right now is that it may not be as bad as 2017 (geez I hope not ) but it is still projected to be bad.

For those who wonder why I worry, this chart should be self-explanatory. New Hampshire looks pretty good. Carl, have you got a spare bunk I have my own sleeping bag, etc.

My Jenn is from New York, which to my surprise has had more storms than her neighboring states.

Glad we moved to New Hampshire, though Hurricane Irene some years back did a lot of expensive damage to bridges, roads and dams, including the dam on our property. Stuff happens.

Sure, we have plenty of room! No sleeping bag required. As for New Hampshire having the lowest hurricane probability of the coastal states, it's pretty easy to achieve when you only have 13 miles of coast-line. We present a very small target.

As many of us know, hurricane season 2018 is a short 5 weeks away.

Each year NOAA/NHC has consistently improved its tracking and projection of a hurricane (or tropical storm) path. Unfortunately, their ability to project strength (TS, Cat 1, Cat 2, etc.) has not kept pace. Storms inexplicably increase (or decrease) in intensity in a very short time span with no apparent catalyst.

Atmospheric scientists are now starting to learn and understand what may cause these sudden pressure drops and strength increases. This is an interesting article from our local newspaper discussing these new findings and theories:

"Defeating" a 'cane isn't all that tough... As with many battles, you win by out-maneuvering the enemy.
