Seeking Stern Pulpit (Pushpit) for Typhoon Senior

Don't forget to snap some photos while you work on that boat project, then share them here.

Seeking Stern Pulpit (Pushpit) for Typhoon Senior

Post by MHBsailor »

Greetings fellow Cape Dorians, does anyone know where to find a stern pulpit (pushpit) for a Typhoon Senior ( I assume one for a CD 22 would also work)? Read elsewhere on this site the OEM is defunct. Thanks!

Pardon my asking but are you adding a push pit or replacing one that was damaged? I ask because if you are adding one I’d suggest, unless you just really want to add one, it’s certainly not necessary. And, on smaller boat, pulpits both forward and aft often detract and overwhelm the lines of the boat. And if it’s just because you desire one, then that’s a perfectly fine reason, as we should all feel free to do what we want without further explanation.

I question the common notion that a stern pulpit offers any added safety. I don’t think people fall off the back of their boat. They usually go over the side during a knock down, or get knocked over the lifelines by the boom, or swept off when green water rolls over the deck. And a stern pulpit gets in the way of landing a fish over the stern, boarding the boat over the stern, managing a dinghy, fiddling with a wind vane, etc.

Stern pulpits can be useful for stowing a dinghy outboard or a bbq grill...and they do “anchor” the life lines. But you can anchor the life lines with strong diagonals forward or aft of the aft most stanchion as your taste suits. You can also tie a line between the two aft stanchions (as we sometimes do offshore) to designate the end of the world.

Here is a picture of the Far Reach without a stern pulpit. We are able to board her effortlessly.
