While you're working on the engine, maybe repack the stuffing box. I inspected all the thru-hulls in my 28 when i first bought it but didn't think about the stuffing box and ended up with a geyser when I first put the boat in the water.

Thank you all again for your great advice. I can't wait to start working on her. Got her ready to be picked up tomorrow. The previous owner gave me a van full of stuff to go with the boat. I know it will be a lot of work and will have more specific questions as I start working on it.
Thank you everyone for your advice!
The boat will be on a mooring in Padanaram and sailing Buzzards Bay and beyond.

Hey Skip,

I, too, am new this winter to the CD 27 club and this board. Excited to get on the water and grateful for the experienced sages here! Peter Hunt did my survey and though he eventually covered every inch of that boat, the first thing he looked at was the condition of the chainplates. Mine were in great shape but they can be problematic with this vintage, depending on the care the boat's received prior. Best of luck on your adventures.

Skip,

She'll clean up nicely! Maybe a couple hours with pressure washer (not on the teak) and scrub brush with detergent and a little bleach and she'll be worth $3k more. At least it will make you feel that way.

As my brother and I told our friend who just bought a CD300 this winter, "So much to learn, so much to spend!" Realize that this is meant in a good way and folks here on the board will help with just about any issue that may/will pop up.

All the best,
Paul

Hi Steve,
I met Peter this morning while I was making a list of projects. He did mention the chainplates and I plan on giving them a very good look. Good luck with your boat.
Thank you Paul, it's a little overwhelming but going to take it one step of a time.
