changing winches

am i missing something here? - my boat has four all bronze lewmar sheet winches (one for each jib sheet, one for main, one for staysail) - i think they look better than the stainless winches - the main sheet winch is a little underpowered but hardly enough to justify almost $1000 to replace it - the all stainless winches on the mast and boom have been fine - anderson winches evidently are terrific but i can't see replacing a winch unless it's beyond repair
