CD25D mast step

Post by John #126 »

I am getting a little water leaking around the top of the compression post on my 25D. Since I have the mast down this year, I could rebed the mast step.
It looks like there are four through bolts that go through the ring at the top of the compression post in the cabin.
Anyone have experience with this? Or should I just caulk around the bottom of the step and leave well enough alone?

Yes you should re bed it. Caulking around the base will leave well enough alone, which at this point, is a leaky mast step. Eventually, that leak is likely to create even greater problems, Steve.

Since you will then have some sort of bedding compound or caulk you can work on re bedding all sorts of deck fittings before they start to leak, Steve.

It really should not be a difficult task, although familiar with how that can turn out. It looked like there were four bolts. Remove them, remove the base, clean up, apply butyl tape and reassemble. It only takes a few minutes when they show it on television.

I meant to use the font for sarcasm when it was suggested it should only take a few minutes. Sorry about any misunderstanding.

Steveg
I was only being humerous. I routinely underestimate the time it takes for everything I do on the Far Reach. It's a running joke in my family. It's a badge I wear with perverse pride.
