!977 cape dory ketch 30 repower
I was wondering if anybody has repowered their CDK30. What are my options for a replacement with reusing my Walter v drive or complete replacement.

I have not heard of anyone keeping the Walter V drive when repowering.
A marina neighbor repowered with a Beta 20, was happy.
I believe the 16 is better suited if you are not adding a compressor for refrigeration.
The adapter beds are not a difficult change.
Consider the cost against the flat resale value on ketches. Are you going to keep it 5-10 years?

I repowered my 1979 cd30k in about 2006. Couldn't keep the v-drive as the new engines are configured differently and end up turning the whole drive train around.spaquin87 wrote:I was wondering if anybody has repowered their CDK30. I used a Volvo D1-20 which worked out great, plenty of power, minimal modification of mounts. The other choice i had was a Yanmar (which if I had to do it again I might look closer at just because of more available service and parts) never had a problem with the Volvo however.
I know the kubota 16 and 20 were used also. I think I would pick the one that I could confirm had good local service support.
