Interior oiled teak updated
For 33 years Orion has had an oiled teak interior. I spent 12 days prepping and applying three coats of Interlux Goldspar Satin to all of the interior teak. Not a fun job but the result was well worth the effort. Here's one before and a couple after pics.

Jim - If you don't mind, what's prep look like for this? My CD27 interior is dark and at the very least needs a scrubbing to brighten things up, but that looks amazing.

I hadn't oiled my teak for two years in anticipation of varnishing. I was afraid the varnish might not react well to the oil.csoule13 wrote:Jim - If you don't mind, what's prep look like for this? I used some 100 grit and 220 grit paper on a few tough spots near the companionway and on the mouldings surrounding the mid-ship and forward hatches. For most everything else I used a green Scotch Brite pad which I believe is 600 grit. I was not sanding so much as giving the surfaces some "tooth".

Jim, Let me add my compliments to your interior varnish job. I had always resisted anything other than oil but seeing how your cabin came out I may change my mind.
Is the cabin sole also the same varnish? If so, is it slippery at all?
Again, looks great

The cabin sole was done a year ago with two coats of Interlux Schooner gloss....I got a free quart for being an early arrival at the Defenders spring sale. I would have preferred satin vernish, but the quart of Schooner was free. I figured I'd lightly sand it and add a coat of satin but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
The gloss on the sole has pretty much lost most of its gloss just from use over the last year. It was never slippery. The teak and holly veneer plywood which Cape Dory used for the sole has the holly splines slightly raised from the teak which helps to keep the cabin sole from becoming a slippery surface.
