Mike:

Yes, but remember you will be on the "dirty side" of Nate and Nate is a good size with a lot of destructive power on/in the NE quadrant. "Caution" is the word of the day. :!: :!: :!: :)

Hurricane warning has been cancelled for Nawlins.
Looks like landfall in a couple hours near Biloxi.

My hero, Jim Cantore, ( )agrees with you Captain Hook about probable landfall near Biloxi in 1-2 hrs :!:

According to NOAA/NHC website, as of this post hurricane warning is still in effect for "Nawlins" and surrounding areas.

More importantly, a hurricane warning is not canceled until Jim Cantore says it is canceled :!:  He has not yet made that pronouncement. Patience. Jim needs to get in 2-3 more dramatic, hyperbolic segments before canceling anything. :D

Yep! Hype it to the max... I know some folks are truly getting "snot" but GGYC seems to have dodged another bullet well.
Our docks are awash but all of the boats are fine and the worst has now passed us.
A bit more water may be driven in from the south & south west winds but not enough to create problems.
I just hope everyone west of us does ok.

Heck, we're still in action here... surge has flooded the GGYC tiki (as expected) and the winds have NOT stopped or even laid down a bit (not expected). It will be at least Monday before we can clear the flotsam & debris.

The boats are all riding well.

Turned out to be a non-event in Nawlins.

Captain Hook:

That is good news. Hopefully, the next one (and there will be a next one) is taken seriously even though Nate was, fortunately for "Nawlins", not too bad.

I am not sure if this Miami Herald article can be opened as an attachment.

http://www.miamiherald.com/news/weather ... 50476.html

Hopefully, yes.

It chronicles some of the history of hurricanes, especially in Florida. While it is 09 October we still have a long way to go to get out of the "danger time zone", that is, the end of October. My hurricane shutters remain up (80% of them) and I have restocked batteries, water, food, crackers, etc.

On an unrelated note, as I write this post I am inconsolable with depression and sadness. My beloved Boston Red Sox have again been eliminated from the MLB playoffs.

This illustration gives you an idea of what the Caribbean and Southeast United States have experienced this year - so far. :( We still have 6-7 weeks to go. :( :(

Please keep in your thoughts the US Citizens in the United States Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Updated reports from earlier today reflect that there is still much to be done and much that is needed. Puerto Rico will be 1-2 years or longer before they are back to "normal" or what will pass for normal on that demolished island. USVIs may be sooner. Contributions to your charity of choice (check with Charity Navigator or similar https://www.charitynavigator.org/ ) with your money designated to USVIs and/or PR will help and will mean a lot. Sadly, there are many on USVIs and PR who feel they have been forgotten. Thank you.

In my wildest dreams (or nightmares) I never would have thought a hurricane would strike Ireland and Scotland. As you may well imagine, in addition to my concern about the safety of the these citizens I am also very concerned about the distilling, bottling and processing of Guinness. I hope to speak with officials at Guinness tomorrow to determine if they anticipate any disruption in their processing plants. I am ashamed to admit that I have not made any effort to stockpile an emergency supply of Guinness.

Mike:

Your thread topic "Here We Go Again" is apropos.

Have we not had enough of this for one "H" season :?:

If the front moving south is delayed by even a little South Florida will again get sustained TS force winds. :(
