Captain Hook and ALL Cape Dorians in the path of soon-to-be Hurricane Nate:

Having gone through Hurricane Andrew (24 August 1992) I have, unfortunately, first hand knowledge and experience with what you will experience with TS/H Nate. Hopefully, it will not be as bad as Andrew (or Harvey or Irma or Maria )

You will all be in my thoughts and prayers.

There is a little bit of possible good news in that some of the models suggest TS/H Nate may not move much more to the west. If this model guidance holds, hopefully "Nawlins" will not get the "dirty side" of Nate. Nawlins will still get a lot of water, storm surge, flooding, etc.

The possible bad news is that Nate will have two (2) days of VERY warm Gulf of Mexico waters to allow it to increase in strength. As I have noted in other posts, NOAA/NHC has become very good at projecting a storm's path. Unfortunately, they are still struggling to more accurately project a storm's strength at any given point along its projected path. Just remember Hurricane Harvey (Texas) from this past August. It went from at Cat.1 to a Cat. 3 in less than 12 hours

I cannot remember a more destructive year for hurricanes with so much loss of life, total displacement of communities, loss of property, etc. I know Hurricane Katrina (2005) was horrific and probably worse than Andrew or Maria in terms of loss of life. However, this year just seems to have one TS/H after another with no end in sight.

The good news is Nate has increased in speed. It is now moving at about 21 mph, up from 14 mph this morning. If Nate keeps up this speed he will have less chance of substantial development (it could still develop a lot ) over the warm Gulf of Mexico waters. If this holds Nate should (could) make landfall as a Cat. 1 hurricane.

Hang tough Toni, Mike, Captain Hook and all along the La., Miss., Al. and Fl. coast.

Looks like Mobile & Pensacola will get the worst of it. The good news is Nate has picked up speed and should move through quickly.
We're staying at the docks at GGYC but with lines to take a 4 to 5 foot surge.

Looks like hurricane Nate is going to be as bad as projected; high winds (probable Cat. 2) and extensive storm surge and landfall, etc. at night. The only good news is it's still moving fast (23 mph) and will move away quickly.

You are in our thoughts. Be safe

Once Nate is gone (probably late Sunday morning) if you have Internet access, please provide an "after action report" (AAR) and damage assessment. When Irma visited South Florida last month we did not have Internet or electrical for 5 days.

Hi Roberto!

Here at GGYC, all is good so far. We have our boats at dock with lines set for the surge. Latest news predicts cat-1 land fall tonight well west of us. We'll probably get another 2 to 3 foot rise in water level but it will also pass quickly.

Many Thanks for your thoughts and prayers! Folks west of us, Pensacola to New Orleans, will have much more to deal with.
