Cape Dory 28 Open Fisherman

Post by John Stone »

I need to take my mind off all these hurricanes.

This past weekend I spent a few days in the Norfolk VA area sailing with a friend on his Cape Dory 36. In light of the many modifications we made to the Far Reach, it was fun to sail on a completely stock boat and compare its accommodations, deck layout, and sailing characteristics to out boat.

My friend keeps his boat at the Hampton Yacht Club (what a nice club). Berthed in one of the slips (all floating docks) was a Cape Dory 28 Open Fisherman power boat. What a nice looking boat. She is fiberglass the windscreen frame was varnished teak. She has great legs, er ... I mean lines, and a huge flush cockpit covering an inboard engine. It was impossible not to admire her. She looked graceful and powerful at the same time. The picture does not do her justice.

We are mostly sailors on the forum it seems, but there are a lot of nice looking Cape Dory power boats out there too. If I could just have a few more boats....
