USCG Vessel registration renewal

Post by Capt Hook »

I received one of those official looking vessel registration renewal letters.

It didn't come from USCG but may have been intended to look like it did.

It offered to renew my registration for $70.

I did it myself on line with USCG Vessel Registration for $26.

My question has to do with mult-year renewal.

This "service" offered to renew for one year for $70, two years for $140 and three years for $210.

I didn't see anything on the USCG site for multi-year renewal.

Is anyone aware of the availability of that from USCG?

I just visited the USCG documentation renewal site. I didn't see anything about multi-year renewal.
I also received the pseudo renewal notice. It's a shame they can't be pinched for trying to deceive the public.

I happened to look at the envelope I received form "U.S. Vessel Documentation" and noted that the return address is in West Virginia although not the same town as the USCG vessel documentation center.

Same here. I'm generally somewhat suspicious, but I almost fell for the $70 renewal form (uscgdocumentation.us). Very official looking. $44 dollar charge to pay a $26 dollar bill. Great business to be in.

I didn't see any kind of multi year option on the actual USCG site (uscg.mil).
