Typhoon Traveller/Boom Vang

Typhoon Traveller/Boom Vang
Has anyone installed either of these and have you noticed and differences in performance.....the traveler looks like it would be pretty narrow so I don't know how much that would help....I'd like to point higher...I have a new main and newer 130 head....thanks.
Re: Typhoon Traveller/Boom Vang
Installing a boom vang makes a traveller less necessary. I put vangs on both of my Typhoons, both CD25s and KAYLA came with one. Since I don't race much any more and KAYLA's traveller is not 'line-controlled' I rarely, if ever, adjust it now.
On the Typhoons I also used the vang to help lower/raise the mast by myself by connecting it between the bow and jib halyard. With 4-to-1 purchase, it was easy to handle. I used Harken bullet blocks so it wasn't cumbersome.

Re: Typhoon Traveller/Boom Vang
I have both on my Ty, and I fiddle with them when I'm sailing, but I'm not convinced they make a huge difference. On the other hand, my main is old and blown out so it's hard to get any decent kind of shape out of it. I tell myself that if I had a crisp new sail the various adjustments would have more effect.

I also wonder if I need a little rake in the mast....I was out on Sunday for three hours in at least 15-20....I have no weatherhelm....wondering if my mast is too far forward.

Wow! Sure sounds like it! Do you have *any* rake at all?shavdog wrote:I also wonder if I need a little rake in the mast....I was out on Sunday for three hours in at least 15-20....I have no weatherhelm....wondering if my mast is too far forward.

Re: Typhoon Traveller/Boom Vang
I am considering a Traveler on my Ty. Its a sail adjustment tool just like a Vang is and I also need that as well...went to jibe the other day and the Main had wrapped around the Spreader, so a Vang is a necessary thing for me.
I'll find a good deal on a nice use traveler soon.

Re: Typhoon Traveller/Boom Vang
Install a vang first and see how much more control you get. With a vang that can be used easily, I've never needed a traveler on either of my Typhoons... YMMV
