Checking the tackometer

Post by Dick Kobayashi »

Last year my 25d ran at top rpms of 2700 under load. This year 2200, but even at 2200 the boat speed is about 5.1-5.2 OTG based on my GPS (knotmeter has long since given up the ghost).

Question: how do I determine if the tack is accurate. btw without a load the tack tops out at about 3100rpm. The engine (1 GM) is professionally maintained annually.

If the Tach is reading the same as it usually does at high RPMs in neutral and at idle, I would suspect it is reading correctly at all times. It sounds like you may have a badly fouled prop, Steve.
