Yanmar 1gm oil leak

I've got an oil leak on my '82 CD25D...somewhere on my Yanmar 1gm. I replaced the two oil lines on the front of the engine last season after the one running under the raw water pump rusted and sprung a pin hole leak. This current leak doesn't seem to be coming from there but I haven't been able to chase down the source. The oil ends up in the bilge, I'm not burning it judging by the exhaust smoke. Has anyone had any similar experience or suggestions as to how to proceed. I'm concerned I'll have to haul the boat, pull the engine and have it overhauled. Obviously, expenses I'd like to avoid if possible. And just as an aside, anyone know a diesel mechanic in or near Brooklyn that might take on such a project as I know just enough to make things worse instead of fixing them. Thanks in advance.

I have that problem as well.

Since you cannot presently locate the source of the leak would it be possible to line the engine sump and surrounding areas with diapers to see if you can more accurately spot where the oil leak is coming from Unless oil is "spraying" around the engine compartment I would think oil drops would deposit below the leak.

Any chance it is coming from or near the oil filter I would initially suspect the replaced oil line connections since those are the only items replaced other than the oil filter.

I just finished replacing the front two oil lines on my 1GM. While I was doing that I noticed there is a 3rd cleverly concealed external oil line on the back of the engine. Maybe goes to the head. It has the same kind of banjo fittings as the front oil lines. Maybe check that line with a bit of paper towel and see if you getting leaking from the line or the end fittings. Good luck

Not to give you nightmares, but... I had some "minor" leaking on my 1GM powered CD25d that i traced to where the transmission housing attached to the engine, only to discover a blown rear oil seal! Would be careful about depending on your engine until you nail down the source of the leak. Good Luck!
