Also... I noticed you anchored next to a very good looking Pacific Seacraft!
What's her name?

Jim, any word from Steve Laume? The Bermuda 1-2 racers got beat up pretty badly right on his route.

Re: Orion has arrived
Just got access to the internet back. It was pretty stormy here so a bunch of us relocated from the Convict Bay anchorage to the Powder Hole anchorage which is more protected.
Steve Laume arrived in Raven Thursday in the AM. He and I are anchored in Convict Bay within sight of one another. The CDSOA is very well represented in Bermuda!
The Pacific Seacraft 34 is Kelly Rae from Grand Lake, Colorado. The skipper is Rich. I helped him with his lines at the Customs dock this morning. He cleared port for Nova Scotia this morning.

Re: Orion has arrived
We were all in it together and it was not pretty. It was truely Cape Dory weather for a solid three days. I am so glad to be here and all is well.jbenagh wrote:Jim, any word from Steve Laume? The Bermuda 1-2 racers got beat up pretty badly right on his route.

Re: Orion has arrived
Jenn and I were tracking the weather the last few days and it did get interesting out there. Well done to Steve on the long run over and well done to Jim for prudently shifting anchorages.
Us? We're still on the hard over at Robinhood. We got back from Nova Scotia late, due to some business obligations over there and today was our first full day of spring chores. Lucky for us it was the day the crappy weather finally broke and the skies were blue and the air warm and dry, with just enough breeze to keep the flies in the woods.
We both love boatyards in the spring. So full of joy, plans and hope for a fine sailing season.
Ya'll be safe out there in the big Atlantic. Have great fun.

Re: Orion has arrived
Simply lovely weather here the last few days. We've seen some passing showers, mainly at 2:30am. It's amazing how the first few raindrops will wake you from a sound sleep. Especially when your ports and hatches are wide open. I manage to get everything buttoned up without becoming fully awake.
Just like my last visit the starter cord on my outboard frayed and I had to remove the recoil starter to replace the cord. I can pretty much do that without being fully awake also.
It was so calm today I managed to get some photos of Orion back in the Convict Bay anchorage. Then I went ashore and had wahoo nuggets for lunch. I'll never eat a chicken nugget again . For supper I bought a couple "Texas chili burgers" at the local market to cook back on the boat. These were not beef burgers, these were mutton burgers. Damn tasty with peas and mashed potatoes.
Tomorrow I'm taking the bus, no ferries on the week-ends, to Hamilton to wander the Americas Cup compound at The Dockyard. I'm not even sure they have a match scheduled. The most important thing is that I get my children, both in their mid-thirties....hah, and my granddaughter, the all important t-shirts and souvenirs.
Tonight the anchorage is like glass....just the faintest breath of wind.

Nice report Jim. Always interesting to hear from the front lines. And, I might add, a lovely picture of Orion.

Re: Orion has arrived
Thanks for these reports. I always enjoy reading them.
Jim, your photo of Orion reminded my that in the recent GOB magazine, the wonderful boat designer Chuck Paine said, regarding good fiberglass sailing boats, to buy a Cape Dory (Typhoon) and sail her. He was waxing about boats needing to be lovely and respect the sea.
I bet when you rowed away and snapped that photo of Orion you fully felt what that means.

Re: Orion has arrived
Orion is back in her home port. I returned at 10:00pm on July 4th. At 9:30pm I noticed fireworks displays in several locations on the coast but I thought everyone was just celebrating my safe return

Re: Orion has arrived
Welcome home, Skipper!
What a wonderful voyage, and thanks so much for all the great photos and updates.
We're still here at Robnhood waiting for the re-pitched prop to arrive. No complaints, though, for it's nice to do a leisurely spring outfitting.
See you at the Maine cruise
