Yet another new Cape Dory owner saying hello
Hi Guys,
A couple of months ago I bought a 1977 CD 27 and have been chipping away at all of the projects that she needed. I have found this board incredibly helpful and I would like to say thanks to all who have shared their experience here.
Heres some pictures from the day i first looked at her to sailing.

Congratulations and Welcome! You obviously have the skills to take her where you want as she's looking really nice. Best of luck!

Nice CD 27 and color scheme! New sails? How are you finishing your brightwork? I did mine last summer. Happy sailing!

Brand new Main from Quantum. All the other sails are quite old, but are just fine for now until i instal a roller furler.North Branch wrote:Nice CD 27 and color scheme! New sails? How are you finishing your brightwork? I did mine last summer. Happy sailing!
The teak was never varnished was and sanded/oiled every season by the previous owner, but when you sand a piece of wood every year for 40 years, it has a way of becoming smaller. So I will repair the transom cap rail with west system and teak dust and will use interlux schooner on everything. The toe rails are pretty torn up, but I will see how they look after i do this before I make the decision to replace them.

While you have the boat out of the water, carefully check the rudder shoe. Often time the marina folks will place a block under the shoe.

She is in the water now, but I did give her a very through going over and the shoe looked fine to me. Such a great boat. I defiantly found a diamond in the rough.moctrams wrote:While you have the boat out of the water, carefully check the rudder shoe. Often time the marina folks will place a block under the shoe.

Actually, I bought her in Bristol and keep her in Newport, although I know what you mean by that.Paul D. wrote:Congrats and welcome to fine, fun boat ownership! Good work bringing her back to bristol.
