Rigging a Genneker on Yankee

Post by Jim Cornwell »

Yankee is the unexpected recipient of a like-new Hood "MP-S" asymmetrical or Genniker, complete with snuffer, from another CD31 owner and former marina-mate who sold his boat to someone who just didn't want to take on the light air sail. I didn't hesitate to accept such a generous gift! As it happened, Yankee's mast was undergoing a complete renovation this spring and it was a simple matter to add a spinnaker bail and halyard block at the masthead while the stick was on sawhorses at ground level.

Now I could use advice from this wise and experienced group about the rest of the rigging for this sail. In order to choose the halyard block, I've assumed a 7/16" StaSet halyard, but beyond that, I'm eager for suggestions about sheets, turning blocks, tackline and associated hardware.

Biggest puzzle: given the CD's bowsprit and its protruding anchor set-up, how have others rigged the tack? Outside the pulpit would be ideal but would require a bowsprit extension, I think. Real-world experience needed here! Thanks for any advice anyone can share! Jim.
