Old Style Merc OBs

Post by hinmo »

I have a chance to get an older Mercury outboard for the well of my CD25. I seem to remember something about fitment of these outboards....the tiller or engine cover may not fit in a CD well?

anyone have any insight?

Thanks

I have a 2005 Mercury 6hp on my cd25. It fits but to close the lid the engine tiller must be pushed all the way back. That being said I am not sure if the PO modified the mounting plate. It has a notch about 2 inches down towards the water. Someday I will look at someone else's cd25 to see if this is standard.

John
I had a 9.9 Merc 25" shaft with electric start that fit with the hatch closed.
Bought it new around mid 90's.
Always went to the chiropractor right after putting the sucker in the well!
My lazarette hatch is not as big as yours so the well might be different than yours.
My mooring neighbor has hull 120 something and has a bigger hatch than mine hull #66
The tohatsu 6 that I have I cannot close the hatch all the way so I have piece of rug and some pads made for furniture legs that do not mark the engine cover

Interesting Pete. Thanks for the input.

I am a fool. I had a 4hp long Johnson given to me. It turns out to be in need of serious repair. I sold a sailmaster 6hp in perfect shape, thinking I would make out financially and weight wise.....nope.

So, looking at all options. Maybe a newer 4 strk Yammie 4hp? I do not really need to ride it hard, just trips when the wind dies and/or I want to limp to the mooring....2.3 honda?

Treating my new '74 as a day sailer (for now)

Weight is a big factor, not trying to get thru Woods Hole
