You learn a great deal about your new to you boat when you get stuck on it during a downpour. What I learned is that the forward hatch leaks like stink in hard rain. Pretty good trickle at roughly the center of the hatch. If I had to guess, it's an old gasket seal that's gone south.
I've gathered poking around that the CD 27 has a Bomar hatch, but I haven't been able to determine the gasket width, or if this something that will require a more detailed rework of the hatch. For now, I've got an old blown out sail that is going to get turned into an awning over the hatch. That should be a fast 90% solution.

You've probably got a C series cast aluminum hatch, which takes a 9/16" round rubber gasket with a self adhesive strip.
You might need some super glue to join the ends together. The gasket material can be ordered by the foot from Defender,
West Marine and a number of other retailers. Search for "Bomar hatch gasket". Hope it solves the leak- good luck- Jean

Re: CD 27 - Mandatory leaky hatch question
Have to weigh in here with a good story. I had had a leaky main hatch and couldn't quite determine where the water was coming from, but the original teak pieces that the hatch slid back and forth in, had been sanded so much that they were broken. I tried fixing them a few times but to no avail.
There's a guy on my dock that is a true shipwright. I hired him to mill some new teak slides (for lack of a better description) and he did a great job and now, NO LEAKS. Had heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday and not a drop. I had cleaned my bilge on Saturday and got all the water out, yesterday it was still dry as could be.
Fortunately, the forward hatch has not developed a leak, yet. However, I do believe that one of the ports is leaking.
