STARVIEW is on the hard

Post by M. R. Bober »

As I am preparing to launch after completing routine maintenance (i.e. bottom prep and paint, redo boot top, and such), I thought about a few upgrades. There is a large powerboat near and it has trim tabs. The owner says he can adjust minor heeling issues with a flick of a switch. So I have asked the yard to install a pair of them forward of the keel to harden up any tenderness when over canvassed. In addition I have sent the mast and booms out to a shop that bronzes baby shoes. I think bronzed spars and maybe the anchor too will be perfect on a Cape Dory.

I will be installing my new wood fired pizza oven after launch because delivery has been delayed, but it will be worth the extra trouble, I'm certain. Fresh pizza, you can't beat it on a summer night with beer brewed right on the boat.

Anyway a few more days and I'll be underway.

A little early for such musings but someone had to be first
I like the idea of the bronzed spars....

Whatever you do, do not let the yard harden up any of your tenderness!!!

I know I'm late with this, it being April 2 already, but I've been thinking about this little project:

Now that we're about to enter a new Age of Coal, how about converting the power plant on my 25D from diesel to a coal-burning steam engine? Sounds like the bilge would be a great place to store spare anthracite--and can you imagine the joy of having to fire up the boiler before starting the engine?

Maybe the boiler could also be used to bake some fresh pizza.

Great idea, Joe! It would also make those Frost-bite Regattas a lot more comfy... :D

Great idea! However, since the coal thing is not a certainty, how about converting it to run on male bovine droppings? I understand it's free and abundant in a certain city WSW of Annapolis these days.

I know that some of you guys are being somewhat facetious, April Fools Day and all that jazz. I have a serious question that I have never seen addressed before.

Has anyone had any success with the installation of bow thrusters on their Typhoon?

Think Spring.

Well... a crew member sitting on the bow with a paddle has worked for me!

Oops! That was actually *me* paddling back over a mile+ after the wind had died...

And No! the prop was neither locked nor free wheeling; there was no prop - hence me with the bloody paddle.
