Was finally able to get in touch with Robinhood/Spartan.

While I'm guessing you're right, that the stuffing box wrenches won't fit in that tight space, the stubborn 14-year-old boy in me needs to learn this the hard way. I'll report back if I have any success.

I don't have any documentation on my engine or shaft but I'm assuming that it is 1". Original Volvo diesel. Anyone have any insight on this? My boat is an '83 CD 28.

Last note: the guy at Robinhood suggested that I use 3/16" flax. For some reason I had 1/4" in my mind but he said in his experience, he couldn't get three rings of 1/4" to fit.

Any and all input is appreciated. I haven't repacked a stuffing box so this is causing a disproportionate amount of anxiety!!

My 1982 CD28 has a 1" shaft. I don't remember what size packing she takes... When I bought KAYLA she had a drip-less seal but it was over 10 years old. I acquired a standard packing gland from a friend that was installing a drip-less seal and swapped out. My thoughts were (and still are) that I'd be happier with extra 'drips' than a big leak from a burst bellows on the drip-less seal...
Good luck with getting the wrenches to fit... :)
