Northern Sailors, Take Heart

Post by Oswego John »

It is said that after a while, snow becomes a four letter word. "Enough, stop already".

Something that I read in the paper gladdened my heart today. Some say that the true harbinger of Spring is the sight of the first robin. Yeah, I'll buy into that, perhaps. But the thing really lights my fire is the announcement of the annual BOAT SHOW. Woo Hoo.

The boat show in my area starts this coming Wednesday. It will, again, be held at the NYS Fairgrounds in Syracuse. Will I be there? Good question. It all depends if I can get my driveway plowed.lol

Winter is a good time to work on boat projects. Working then does not cut into boating season. At least that is what I have to remind myself. Sitting waiting for the ice to melt and the snow to stop.

OJ:

I am very sympathetic to your situation in/near Oswego.

Here in South Florida this weekend we have the Miami Boat Show and Strictly Sail Miami. At this time of year normal average high temps are 75-76 degrees with low humidity and a pleasant breeze. This year meteorologists are projecting day time temps this weekend as high as 84-85 degrees with little breeze and no clouds to provide even a little shade from the sun.

Although I am on "modified duty" for a while I do plan to attend the Strictly Sail Miami this Friday. I will "soldier on" and do the best I can with the warm temps and beating sun. :D :D
Fair winds,

That's what I'm doing. All of my running rigging has seen nine seasons of use and constant exposure to the elements. Everything was just starting to show wear and there's nothing quite as satisfying as replacing running rigging before there's a failure.
