Aluminum primer

Aluminum primer
I have pulled my aluminum frame Bomar hatcher off my CD33. I want to repaint them before resetting the hatches in the spring. I also have some aluminum on the binnacle that is peeling paint, and the alum is oxidising. I am looking for quarts of zinc chromate primer paint and not having much luck. Anyone know of a source for this? Thanks in advance.
Re: Aluminum primer
I've used Rustoleum Latex Aluminum Primer and had excellent results.

Re: Aluminum primer
When we painted the new aluminum spars for the Far Reach we intended to use acid wash and zinc chromate primer. Awlgrip has moved on to an environmentally safer product called, I think, CF Wash. there may be another product that goes with it. I can't remember. Anyway, that's what we went with and so far it's held up well. Then we painted with straight two part LPU Awlgrip.

Re: Aluminum primer
Moelller makes marine Zinc Chromate spray primer in yellow and green.

At $22 per spray can, you can bet it's the schizz. You really want to wear a respirator with fresh cartridges when using this stuff, and work outdoors.
When you are not spending enough at marine chandleries, go aviation...

Re: Aluminum primer
I used Interlux zinc primer and their Perfection 2 part urethane top-coat 5 or 6 years ago when re-finishing my spars.
Sprayed it on. it was easy to use and has held up well. Prep is key, follow manufact's directions.

Re: Aluminum primer
Just a thought, which may require more work to take the hatch apart. powder coat. 13 Years ago I powder coated my binnacle, and booms along with new transition bases for stainless hatches from Mariner's hardware. I don't think they are in business anymore. Maintenance free other than washing off.
