Possibilities - NE Fleet float-in at Milford or Port Jeff

Post by Cathy Monaghan »

While you're mulling around the possibility of a Northeast Fleet float-in in New York Harbor in 2017, how about a float-in at either Port Jefferson, NY or Milford, CT or both?

I would plan this float-in for the weekend following the NY Harbor Float-in.

We could meet at Port Jefferson, NY on Friday afternoon/evening and anchor south of Old Field Beach. A dinghy ride to the beach should be a welcome respite from the July heat and folks can go for a swim if they like.

Saturday we can move from the anchorage at Old Field Beach to Port Jefferson Harbor and get moorings from Murphy's Marine Service or the yacht club and take the launch ashore. Take a stroll through the Harborfront Park then check out Bayles Boat Shop where they build and restore boats, and maybe visit the Port Jefferson Brewing Co. and sample their beers. If you brought the kids, you can take them to the Maritime Explorium. If you'd like to wander a little farther into town, you can visit the Mather House Museum on Prospect Street. Then a group dinner at one of the local restaurants in the evening.

OR....

Saturday we can sail or race across the Sound to Milford, CT. We can either anchor off Charles Island (calm weather only) or head up the river to the town dock (Milford Lisman Landing). There we can all converge on Scoopy Doos for some ice cream (something I always look forward to). We can have a potluck dinner in the marina picnic area, or at Wilcox Park, or we can walk to one of the nearby restaurants for a group dinner.

Please let me know if you're interested.

Thanks,
Cathy

The trip to Port Jeff sounds great- I will definitely go if this goes forward. Between spending a little extra time in
Port Jeff or going across the sound, I'd favor staying on L.I. a little longer, but will defer to whatever the group decides.
Great idea!. - Jean

I'm a little disappointed there isn't much interest in this just yet. If you and your partner are still willing to
go, Cathy, so am I. I grew up in Port Jeff and my wife, if she we were still alive, would have loved to go.
Hopefully, as spring and early summer come around there'll be more interest. - Jean

Hi Cathy,

I'd be interested if it were after 7/29. I have the same problem each year of a family vacation in Fairfield which this year is 7/15-7/29. I am retired now so I might try to put something together some time during the summer in CT or RI.
