detachable forestay

do you ever use it and how does it work.

I have a roller furling genoa. In order to use a hanked on jib, I have an old wire luff that I use as an inner forestay. It attaches to the jib halyard (the furler has an internal halyard)and is secured to the stem fitting, just inches behind the furler. It's all winched tight. The spinaker halyard is used for the jib.
