Has anyone out there had any experience with the Simrad line of AP's? If so I am looking for some dimension info. Especially the clearnce necessary between the pedestal and the wheel. It is fairly close on my CD36. The Autohelm fits but just barely.

Re: SIMRAD AUTOPILOT
I'm not positive on this point but I'm pretty sure the old Navicos are now Simrads. They merged or something like that. You might consider getting info from folks using Navico pilots if no one with a Simrad responds. You might want to consider a below deck pilot. We use a Autohelm 6000 with below deck linear drive on a 30. It would be a great pilot on a 36.David Sabourin wrote: Has anyone out there had any experience with the Simrad line of AP's? Re: SIMRAD AUTOPILOT
Hi Dave,,,I installed the Simrad WP30 Autopilot on my CD30MKII last summer. It fits as though it was made for the Edson Pedestal. The straps and plastic mounting pieces fit well around the pedestal. No problem with the clearance between the wheel and autopilot.
If you are getting the WP30 (NMEA) and are going to use a Garmin GPS, I would not recommend a remote control for the autopilot. The Garmin uses a different grounding setup then some other GPS and for some reason when a remote is wired in the system the GPS seems to drop offline after a few minutes. ( Simrad instructions show both types of grouding systems and how to wire them) I worked with Simrad support (which is very good) tried different grounding places, etc. still would drop offline. It might have been a problem with something on my boat , but I just got rid of the remote and ( which keeps it simpler anyway) and the system works very well.
