Now That Matthew Is Gone

Post by Oswego John »

Roberto, or anyone in the Florida storm area, Has anyone any information on how Zaida made out. From what I read and heard on the news, that corner of Fl near Miami missed the brunt of the hurricane. I hope that I heard correctly and that all is well with you guys.

Take care.

OJ:

Yes, all is well in SE Florida. It is kind of you to ask.

I have not spoken with Zeida yet but I know where she berths S/V Bandolera II at a marina on Biscayne Bay. All of SE Florida, including Biscayne Bay, was spared any real high winds or high seas. Some areas had sporadic heavy rain bands that contained 35-40 mph winds but it was only for a short time.

I think it was at about 1000 hrs last Thursday when Hurricane Matthew made a short "jog" to the N and NE and then resumed its prior course and speed. The timing of this "jog" allowed for the stronger winds near the eye to pass well east of almost all of SE Florida. Even areas around Hollywood and Ft. Lauderdale that were expected to absorb the brunt of Matthew were spared and got only TS winds.

This website, if I post it correctly (I am not good at geek stuff) should show the path/area of both TS and H winds:

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/2016/gr ... op_S.shtml

If you look carefully, you can see the 1-2 degree "jog" to the NE as Matthew approached the SE coast of Florida.

S/V Bali Ha'i is still on her trailer at the house. We had our first "cold front" come through last night and today. Temps only got to 85 today with slightly lower humidity :!: A blessing :!: :!: I am hoping to shortly start trying to remove, clean, service and reinstall four (4) seacocks in the engine compartment.
Fair winds,

Roberto
