Sorry for the delay in responding to recent posts. My internet service (AT&T) stopped working Friday, early am. I do not think it was related to Hurricane Matthew - just incompetence of AT&T and their equipment.
We had no damage at all in our area in South Miami-Dade. Just a little heavy rain periods and some moderate wind bands.
I have been able to talk with most of my friends along the eastern seaboard of Florida. All did fairly well. Hurricane Matthew managed to stay pretty much offshore during its run up the east coast. Some tree damage, power outages, flooding, some storm surge, etc. It could have been MUCH worse. We were lucky.
I was able to watch the Boston v. Cleveland games 1 and 2; we never lost electric - perhaps it would have been better for me if we had lost electric. My heart is filled with sadness. I may think I am a "tough as nails" guy but I cried like a baby - especially after game 2 (0-6). We have been here before and we will overcome this setback.
I now need to restock Guinness

Looks like Mathew is holding a northerly course a little longer than forecasted a couple days ago. It's still a big storm but down to a Cat 1. Lots of rain here in coastal NC. Winds about 25-30 knots now. A few gusts to 40. Winds forecasted for about 50 knots tonight and early tomorrow. Probably 3' storm surge here right now. The docks in Swansboro are just starting to see water over the top. High tide about 1430.
My sister Tricia and I made the 30 mile drive to check on the Far Reach on the hard near Beaufort. She looked fine. Back home now. Waiting and watching. Hopefully, Mathew will make the turn east soon.
Thinking about all the folks south of us and hope they fare well. Big shout out to Annya Broderick weathering Mathew with her CD 33 Edelweiss in Wilmington. Good luck to all.

All good here. Lots of rain. A very windy 24 hours. We were very lucky. Checked on the Far Reach today and she came through in outstanding fashion. Very dry cool air today. Opened up all the hatches and flooded her with fresh air and brilliant sunshine.

I am happy to know all is well with S/V Far Reach.
Sadly, this evening I am heartbroken, depressed and inconsolable. My beloved Boston Red Sox lost game 3 to Cleveland. We are out of the post season.
I was hoping that we could do something special for David "Big Papi" Ortiz for his last season before retiring. It was not meant to be. He gave so much to Boston. He will be missed.
I remember in August 2013 when Big Papi addressed the crowd at Fenway after the terrorist bombings. In addition to other words he said in a stadium wide microphone "This is our f_ _ _ing city and no will dictate our freedom". Even the commissioner of baseball approved despite the colorful language
I would like to think that on that day everyone was a citizen of "Red Sox Nation".
I am happy to know all is well with S/V Far Reach.
